With the world moving toward digital governance, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has made the process of getting a Voter ID (EPIC card) incredibly easy. If you have recently turned 18 or haven’t registered yet, you can now apply for your Voter ID card from the comfort of your home.
In this guide, we will walk you through the online application process for a Voter ID card in 2026, the documents required, and how to track your status.
Eligibility Criteria for Voter Registration
- Citizenship: You must be a citizen of India.
- Age: You must be 18 years of age or older on the qualifying date (1st Jan, 1st April, 1st July, or 1st Oct of the year).
- Residence: You should be an “ordinary resident” of the constituency where you want to be enrolled.
Documents Required for Online Voter ID Application
Identity/Age Proof – Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Birth Certificate, or Class 10th Marksheet.
Address Proof – Aadhaar Card, Indian Passport, Electricity/Water bill, or Bank Passbook.
Photograph – One recent passport-sized color photograph with a white background.
Step-by-Step Guide to Apply for Voter ID Online (Form 6)
Step 1:- First, visit the official website by clicking on the LINK provided below.
Step 2:- f you are a new user, click on the ‘Sign-Up’ button. Enter your mobile number and email to create an account. Once registered, log in using your credentials and the OTP sent to your phone.
Step 3:- Once logged in, look for “New Registration for General Electors” and click on Form 6.
Note: Form 6 is specifically for Indian residents. If you are an NRI, you must fill Form 6A.
Step 4:- Enter Personal Details
- Select State/District/Assembly Constituency: Choose the area where you currently live.
- Personal Details: Enter your name, surname, and relative’s name (Father/Husband).
- Upload Photo: Upload your passport-size photo.
Step 5:- Select the document type for Age Proof and Address Proof from the dropdown menu and upload the scanned copies.
Step 6:- Double-check all the entered information. Once satisfied, click on the ‘Preview’ button to see the final draft. If everything is correct, click ‘Submit’.
What Happens After Submission?
After you submit the form, you will receive a Reference ID. Keep this safe to track your application status.
- BLO Appointment: A Booth Level Officer (BLO) will visit your residence for physical verification.
- Verification: The Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) will verify the BLO’s report.
- EPIC Generation: Once approved, your name will be added to the electoral roll, and a unique EPIC Number will be generated.
- Delivery: Your physical Voter ID card will be delivered to your registered address via Speed Post within 15–30 days.
How to Track Your Voter ID Status
- Visit the Voters’ Service Portal.
- Click on ‘Track Application Status’.
- Enter your Reference ID and select your State.
- The current stage of your application will be displayed on the screen.
